This block shows different sections that list new content on the site. This list of sections can be changed by plugins. The standard sections are Comments, Links and Stories.

The timespan can be determined in the config.php at least for the three standard sections. However, the text that is shown, for example "LINKS last 2 wks" is not automatically corresponding to the time you set in the config.php. This text has to be edited manually in the language file.

Customizing
